Frieren and Fern Dress Up as Witches for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Halloween 2024 Illustration

Freeze: Beyond Journey's End revealed a 2024 Halloween illustration featuring Frieren and Fern dressed up as witches. The anime adaptation recently celebrated its 1st anniversary, and a Season 2 TV anime by studio MADHOUSE was also confirmed to be in production. You can see the new visual below.

The first season of the anime was animated by MADHOUSE and ran for 28 episodes from September 29, 2024. The anime was directed by Keiichiro Saito, with series composition by Tomohiro Suzuki. Reiko Nagasawa was the character designer, with the chief animation direction led by Yuri Fujinaka, Reiko Nagasawa, and Maru Takase. Evan Call composed the music. The main voice cast for the anime included:

  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Freeze
  • Or Ichinose as Fern
  • Chiaki Kobayashi as Stark
  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel
  • Yoji Ueda as Eisen
  • Atsuko Tanaka as Flamme
  • Hiroki Tochi as Heiter
  • Ayana Taketatsu as Aura

The anime was voted as the Best Anime of Fall 2023, also taking the Best Boy (Stark), Best Girl (Fern), Best Adaptation, Best Drama, and Best Opening (“Yuusha” by YOASOBI) awards.

In our 2023 Anime of the Year Awards, Frieren won Best New Anime, Best Adaptation, Best Fantasy, Best Adventure, and it was 2nd in Best Drama and 3rd in Best Animation. Then in the Winter 2024 anime rankings, the 2nd cour of the anime also performed well. It took 5 awards and was runner-up in many categories behind Of coursewhich had sweeped the weekly rankings that season.

Kanehito Yamada writes the Freeze: Beyond Journey's End manga, with Tsukasa Abe as the artist. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday manga magazine since April 2020. The manga is available to read via Sunday Webry, Viz Mediaand the Shogakukan Comic website, while Crunchyroll streams the anime.
