The Colors Within movie had a world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this June. GKIDS licensed it in North America with a winter release date. Reiko Yoshida is writing the script for the movie with Kensure Ushio as the music composer. Daisuke Richard is credited with the original character design, while Takashi Kojima is in charge of doing them for the movie. The main cast includes Sayu Suzukawa as Totsuko Higurashi, Akari Takaishi as Kimi Sakunaga, Taisei Kido as Rui Kagehira, and Yui Aragaki as Hiyoshiko.
The plot of The Colors Within is described as:
Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?
The movie was initially slated to premiere in 2023 but was pushed back to this year.
