Her Blue Sky Now Streaming on Netflix

The acclaimed Her Blue Sky is now streaming on Netflix with English subs and dubs. Based on the manga by Yaeko Ninagawa, the CloverWorks-animated film premiered at the 52nd Sitges Film Festival a few days before its October 11, 2019, theatrical release in Japan. The TOHO-distributed film earned ¥440.5 million ($2,970,440) in its first month.

Tatsuyuki Nagai (Honey and Clover II, Toradora!) directed the film. Mari Okada (O Maidens in Your Savage Season) wrote the script. Masayoshi Tanaka (Darling in the Franxx) served as the film’s chief animation director and created the character designs.

Her Blue Sky in a Nutshell

After an accident leaves them orphaned, Akane Aioi raises her younger sister Aoi for more than a decade. To lighten Akane’s burden, Aoi chooses to move to Tokyo after graduating to pursue a musical career. A career choice that was inspired by her sister’s former boyfriend, Shinnosuke ‘Shinno’ Kanamuro, who vanished after the tragic loss of their parents.

When Aoi makes it to Tokyo, to her surprise, she meets the Shinnosuke from over a decade ago, but that’s not all; his current 31-year-old self is also present! Her Blue Sky centers around this dilemma and how it will affect the lives of the show’s characters going forward.
